Stories and Art from the Edge
In keeping with our 2016 theme of "On the Edge" the TEDxPiscataquaRiver team will be presenting a Story & Art Exhibit and a Film Collaboration of the same name.
Attendees of TEDxPiscataquaRiver can see this exhibit all day during the TEDx event on Friday, May 6th at 3S Artspace. This exhibit will also be open to the public from 4:30pm – 7:00pm on Friday, May 6th.
On the Edge Story & Art Exhibit
Written by Elissa Margolin, these stories highlight people in our own community who are on the edge — of money, of community, of ordinary, of home and of power — and ties them together with themes from TED and TEDx talks that address the theme of each person's story.
The stories feature:
- Jen Seabrooke (On the Edge of Money)
- Leigh Ober (On the Edge of Community)
- Ryan Louney (On the Edge of Ordinary)
- Nate Sanborn (On the Edge of Home)
- Debbie Verdicchio (On the Edge of Power)
with thanks to Cross Roads House, Bikram Yoga Portmouth, Friends in Action and Womenaid of Greater Portsmouth for working with our community members on the edge.
These stories will be accompanied by photo portraits of each interviewee, shot by photographer Cheryle St. Onge, along with artwork from local artists, including:
- Anna Nuttall
- Nicholas Daly
- Katherine Doyle
- Brenna Anderson
- Students from Continuum Arts Collective, with support from Chase’s Garage
Students from Continuum Arts Collective (a non-profit organization which seeks to foster growth for support-challenged, aspiring 8 – 12 grade artists) are participating in a workshop at Chases Garage, to create artist trading cards that express the theme On the Edge in their own ways. This student art workshop is taking place the week of the TEDx event and the art created will be showcased in the exhibit.
Stay tuned for photos from this exhibit and from the student art workshop.
On the Edge Collaborative Film Project
In addition to the Story & Art Exhibit, which will be in the gallery at 3S Artspace with TEDx's Tech Playground, a film collaboration will also be shown during the TEDx program.
The film is created by Catherine Stewart and CJ Lewis, with Michael Rodriguez Torrent, is a collaboration of many local artists, actors, filmmakers and other creative community members. Inspired and adapted from the On the Stories mentioned above, this film project will reinterpret them to show that we can all be on the edge. The films will feature music composed by Jonny Peiffer.
Stay for a full list of credits, which is ever-growing to include many artistic voices from around the Seacoast.
